Svendsen, Johan

Bukett-vals av J. Strauss

(Bukett Valz af J. Straus)

Bouquet Waltz by J. Strauss

Original title: Not identified

JSV 12

Svendsen’s autograph score with the arrangement of J. Strauss’ Bouquet Waltz is contained in the same music notebook as the arrangement of Lanner’s Marie Waltz. Both arrangements are dated Christiania, 24 January 1861. Svendsen’s manuscript is titled Bukett Valz af J. Straus, spelling ‘Strauss’ with one final ‘s’ and abbreviating the first name with the initial ‘J’. We have not been able to identify the original work. This means that the waltz may have been written by either Joseph Strauss (1827–1870), Johann Strauss I (1804–1849), or Johann Strauss II (1825–1899). The most likely composer, however, is Johann Strauss I, who historically is most closely associated with Lanner.

Composition: 24 Jan. 1861.
