Andantino quasi allegretto

Andantino quasi allegretto

JSV 49

There are a number of unanswered questions concerning Svendsen’s Andantino quasi Allegretto, JSV 49. An autograph score with this title can be found on the same sheet of music paper as Svendsen’s arrangement of Schumann’s ‘Träumerei’ from Kinderszenen, Op. 15, kept at the National Library of Norway in Oslo (Mus.ms. 7888). It is uncertain whether Andantino quasi Allegretto represents an original composition or whether it is an arrangement. Since divisi is written into the parts for Violin II and Viola we assume that it is written for string orchestra. Benestad and Schjelderup-Ebbe write in their book Johan Svendsen, mennesket og kunstneren, Aschehoug, Oslo, 1990 that the work probably was used in Fra Fjeld og Fjord, Op. 29, since the poster of that performance lists an 'Andantino'.
