Chatarina Waltz

([de]: Chatarina-Waltzer in A)

JSV 5

Before embarking on his studies in Leipzig in 1862, Johan Svendsen (1840–1911) composed a number of works in the popular genres of his time – nine waltzes, two polkas, two galops, two marches, and a bolero. The nine waltzes are all waltz cycles in Viennese style. They all have an introduction, five numbered waltzes, and a longer, more freely conceived finale with a return to the first part of the first waltz. The score of Chatarina Waltz is dated 13 November 1858 in the bound volume, while the parts material includes two different dates in December 1858.

Composition: 13 Dec. 1858.
