(Andante sostenuto af F. Schubert instrumentert af Johan S. Svendsen)

Andante sostenuto by Franz Schubert

Original title: Franz Schubert (1797-1828): Klaviersonate nr. 21 B-Dur, D-960 (1828), II. Andante sostenuto

JSV 50

Johan Svendsen completed his orchestration of Franz Schubert’s (1797–1828) Andante Sostenuto on 31 May 1872 in Donndorf near Bayreuth. A complete set of parts has been preserved in Svendsen’s handwriting, but we know of no performances of the work. Schubert’s original Andante sostenuto is the second movement of his Piano Sonata in B-flat major, D. 960 (1828). This was not the first time Svendsen had arranged a work by Schubert. During a longer stay in Paris in 1869, he had orchestrated Schubert’s Divertissement à la Hongroise, D. 818, originally for piano four-hands.
