Two Religious Songs

JSV 62

Text source: The Mormon Church’s danish hymnbook: "Salmer og aandelige sange for Jesu Kristi Kirke af Sidste-Dages Hellige”, Published by J. M. Christensen, Copenhagen 1906

Svendsen’s choir arrangements of two religious songs, ‘Et opløftende Minde som aldrig forsvinde’ (An Uplifting Remembrance That Never Shall Vanish) and ‘Nu Israels Genløser’ (Redeemer of Israel) can be found in one of several sketchbooks kept at the Royal Danish Library in Copenhagen.15  We do not know whether or not Svendsen composed these two melodies.
The texts to the songs can be found in the Danish hymn book of the Mormon Church, J.M. Christensen’s ‘Salmer og aandelige sange for Jesu Kristi Kirke af Sidste-Dages Hellige’ (Hymns and Spiritual Songs for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), published in Copenhagen in 1906.

Composition: 1874?.

From the placement in the sketchbook one can argue that these hymn-settings might have been written by Svendsen in the autumn of 1874.
