Johan Svendsen returned to Norway from an extensive international travel 11 May 1880. On 5 June he went on holiday to Larkollen, where he wrote ‘Frühlingsjubel’. His almanac entry of 19 July notes that he had sent the song to Warmuth for publication. As in Op. 23, Svendsen once again resorted to Bodenstedt’s Die Lieder des Mirza-Schaffy. The Norwegian version of the text may have been adapted by Svendsen himself. ‘Frühlingsjubel’ is dedicated to the leading Norwegian baritone at the time, Svendsen’s friend Thorvald Lammers (1841–1892).

Composition: 1880-07.
